Many Sage 500 ERP customers (fka Sage MAS 500 ERP) don’t realize that they can change the webpage that displays in the Business Desktop for each module within the system. This is very useful if you have specific content that you want displayed for specific users.
This works for Sage 500 ERP versions 7.3 and 7.4. You do this by right clicking on the Module Group (such as “Home”) in the Tasks pane and selecting Properties from the list. In the Task Group Properties you can set a URL for the content path to be displayed. Again, you can do this for each module so that you have different information displayed based on the module selected by the user.

As we mentioned in a previous post, the 1990s were an interesting time for ERP software. Microsoft Windows was catching on fast and we started to see DOS and Unix-based software publishers rewriting their systems or porting them to support Windows.
Like most resellers at the time, we were very happy with Unix-based applications – they were stable and the character-based user interfaces were easy to use without a mouse and supported rapid data entry via keyboards and function keys. There seemed to be no reason to change technology platforms. Continue reading

After years beating our heads against the wall trying to figure out how to generate more leads, we finally took the time to look at the data on where our best leads were coming from. And lo and behold – it wasn’t from our direct mail, telemarketing, or even our email marketing campaigns. Nor was it trade shows or advertising. Nope. When we took the time to analyze the opportunities we immediately noticed that they all had one thing in common – they were referrals – referrals from employees, referrals from business partners, and referrals from customers. Even though we didn’t track referrals as a lead source, we can safely ascertain that over 60% of our new business over the past three years was a direct result of a referral.
A few months ago we hired Joanne Black of No More Cold Calling to help us define a lead referral marketing strategy. We are just about done with the training and are starting to put her concepts into action. It’s difficult since asking for a referral is difficult and is a complete change in the way we normally do business. But we are practicing the technique and anticipate increasing our referral leads to at least 70% of new opportunities going forward.
Joanne’s methodology makes complete sense and it cuts out all of the dead leads that we generate allowing us to focus our time and attention on high quality leads from people who trust and recommend us. I highly recommend No More Cold Calling to anyone looking for a great source of leads for their business. You can learn more by visiting her website at www.nomorecoldcalling.com or by reading her amazing book.

As the company grew, founder Bill Henslee rebranded the company as Haitek Solutions to better reflect the purpose of the company – to provide high technology solutions to businesses. The “HAI” part of our name stood for Henslee & Associates, Inc. Continue reading
